Desert tours from Agadir

From Agadir the real Sahara is closer than people think: four hours by road through Taliouine and Taznakht brings you to Foum Zguid, two and a half hours of track from the high dunes of Erg Chegaga.

Our tours from Agadir

Beach holidays in Agadir and Taghazout mostly sell day trips: Paradise Valley, Imouzzer, Taroudant. The desert is rarely offered from the coast, and when it is, it points at Merzouga, nine hours away. That makes little sense: Erg Chegaga is half the distance across the Anti-Atlas.

The drive is a superb and little-known crossing: Taroudant and its ramparts, the Souss valley, Taliouine and its saffron fields, then Taznakht and the descent to Foum Zguid. Four hours of tarmac, almost no traffic, and scenery that changes every half hour.

From a beach stay, allow three days to do the desert properly: drive up on day one, camp night on day two, return on day three. We collect and drop off at your hotel, including in Taghazout and Tamraght.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the desert from Agadir in a single day?

No, and be wary of offers that promise it: those go to coastal dunes or into the Anti-Atlas, not the Sahara. The first true erg is four hours of road plus two and a half hours of track away.

Is it better to leave from Agadir or Marrakech?

Agadir is marginally closer to Foum Zguid than Marrakech (4 h versus 4.5) and the Anti-Atlas road is quieter. The choice mostly depends on where you are staying and whether you want to see Ait Ben Haddou, which sits on the Marrakech road.

Do you transfer from Agadir airport?

Yes, on request, with pick-up on arrival. Many guests chain it directly: land in the morning, reach Foum Zguid late afternoon, head into the desert the next day.

Other departure cities: see all options · Understand the region: Foum Zguid, Erg Chegaga, Lake Iriqui.
