Few travellers know it: from Agadir, the real Sahara is closer than from Marrakech. Four hours across the Anti-Atlas — Taroudant, the Souss valley, the saffron fields of Taliouine — and you are in Foum Zguid, gateway to the high dunes. This three-day trip links beach to desert without a single wasted hour of road.

It is the format for travellers staying in Agadir, Taghazout or Tamraght who want something beyond the beach: two nights, one of them at the camp beneath Erg Chigaga, and an Anti-Atlas crossing the classic circuits ignore completely. Pick-up at your hotel or surf house, return to the same door.

Why nobody sells this trip (and why we do)

Agadir agencies sell the beach, Paradise Valley and, as 'desert', either coastal dunes or Merzouga nine hours away. The Anti-Atlas road to Foum Zguid is not on their map — it is an interior road with no tourist infrastructure, so no commission to collect. For us it is simply the road home. You get the benefit: four superb, near-empty hours, and the great erg within reach of a beach holiday.

Season and climate

The road works year-round; the camp night follows the camp season (September to early June). In summer we swap the dune night for an oasis night and a sunrise Lake Iriqui run.

Frequently asked questions

Is Taghazout or Tamraght pick-up really included?

Yes, at no supplement — those villages are twenty minutes from Agadir and a large share of our coast guests stay there. Just give your accommodation when booking.

Can this be done in 2 days?

Possible but not advised: it would mean eight hours of road and five of track in two days. Three days gives the desert the space it deserves. If you truly have only two days from the coast, talk to us — a Lake Iriqui day with a Foum Zguid night is sometimes the better compromise.

How do children handle the drive?

Well: road stages break every hour and a half (ramparts, saffron, palm groves), and day 2 is entirely in the desert. Child seats provided; from about age 4.
