The three-day trip from Marrakech works, but it sets a pace: a long drive, one night in the dunes, and already the return. With one more day the journey breathes. You spend a full day in the erg without touching the track, and you return through the Draa valley instead of retracing the outbound road.
Four days, three nights: one in a Foum Zguid guesthouse, two at the Erg Chegaga camp. All in a private 4x4, from your riad in Marrakech to the dunes and back, with a Saharan guide from Foum Zguid.
This is the format we recommend to travellers with a single trip to Morocco who want the desert to be its heart, not an excursion squeezed between two cities.

Day 3 is what justifies the trip
On a three-day trip from Marrakech you reach the dunes late in the day and leave the next morning: about fifteen hours on site, eight of them asleep. On four days you get a full day in the erg, sunrise to sunset, without ever getting back in the car.
It is simple arithmetic, and it is the whole difference: the desert triples in duration for a third more budget.
Season and climate
Year-round, with the camp night swapped for an oasis night in July and August. December to February: cold camp nights but exceptional light, and occasional snow on the Tichka pass (we adjust the schedule).
Frequently asked questions
Is 3 or 4 days better from Marrakech?
Four, if you can. The third day adds a full day in the dunes with no driving, and the Draa valley return avoids retracing the outbound route. The 3-day remains a good format if your Morocco trip is short.
Can the trip end in Ouarzazate or Agadir?
Yes, with the rate adjusted for distance. Many travellers finish in Ouarzazate for a flight, or continue to Agadir and the coast. Tell us when booking.
How much driving per day?
Day 1: about 5 h of tarmac including stops. Day 2: 3 h of track. Day 3: none. Day 4: about 6 h back. It is the best-balanced of our Marrakech circuits.
