Overnight trip, multi-day tour or a single day out: every tour departs from the village in a private 4x4 with a Saharan guide born in Foum Zguid. Why start from Foum Zguid?

Because it is the shortest approach to Erg Chigaga: about 2.5 hours of track, versus 3.5–4 from M'hamid. And because the Foum Zguid track is the finest — it crosses the Iriqui dry lake, the Moroccan Colorado and the fossil plateau before reaching the dunes. Coming from Marrakech, Agadir or Ouarzazate, the Taznakht road brings you straight to us, with no detour through the Draa valley.

How many days?

A day trip shows you the dunes; the 2-day tour adds the night, which changes everything; the 4-day grand tour makes the full loop — two ergs, the lake, the rock carvings — without ever driving the same track twice. In between, 3 days remains the best time-to-immersion compromise.

4x4 or camel?

Both reach the desert, at different speeds. The 4x4 takes you far, fast: Erg Chigaga in 2.5 hours, Lake Iriqui within the morning, with a camp already standing when you arrive. A camel trek moves at four kilometres an hour, without an engine, with a camp that shifts every night. You go less far and see more. If this is your first desert and you have two days, take the 4x4; if you have three days and genuinely want to slow down, take the camels — our treks page compares the walking formats side by side.

Arriving with your own 4x4? The night at the desert camp can be booked on its own, GPS point provided.
