First question

Where are you starting from?

It decides everything else: how many days you need, what it costs, and whether you come to us or we come to you. Pick your city.

Why Foum Zguid?

The quiet gateway to the Sahara

Merzouga has the crowds, M'hamid has the long track. Foum Zguid has the shortcut: our village is the most direct approach to Erg Chigaga — 2.5 hours of track versus nearly 4 from M'hamid — and the only one that crosses Lake Iriqui, the ancient Saharan lake at the heart of Morocco's largest national park.

In practice that is half a day less on the track for the same dunes, and a real desert crossing instead of a long ribbon of tarmac.

Who takes you out

A Foum Zguid agency, not a reseller

We are not a Marrakech middleman subcontracting your day to somebody in the south. The agency is in Foum Zguid, the 4x4s and the camps are ours, your guides were born here — and the departure tea is served at our house, facing Jbel Bani.

These two answer your messages, and one of them will meet you in the village:

And these are the Saharan guides who drive the 4x4s and set up the camps: Abdel Fatah, Abdel Rahim, Abdel Hafid, Abde Samad.

Desert camp under the Milky Way at Erg Chigaga

9 pm · Fire and stars

The starriest night of your life

Not a streetlight within 60 kilometres. At Erg Chigaga the Milky Way rises over the dunes while bread bakes under the sand. That night is why people travel this far.

How it works

Booking, in three steps

  1. You write to us On WhatsApp, by email, or through the form. Tell us your dates, the city you're starting from and how many you are. Nothing to pay, nothing to sign up for — it's a conversation, not a checkout.
  2. We confirm the plan and the price You get the exact itinerary back, what is included, what isn't, and the total for your group — the prices on this site are per person based on two, so the more of you there are, the lower the per-person price.
  3. We meet at the start In Foum Zguid, or at your accommodation if we're picking you up. Your guide calls the day before to confirm the time.

Payment and cancellation terms are set out in our cancellation policy and our terms of sale.

Frequently asked

What people ask before booking

Is the price shown the final price?

It is the price per person based on two travellers, and it covers what's listed under "Included" on each tour page: the private 4x4 with driver-guide, the camp night, the meals named. What's left to you is under "Not included" — usually lunches, drinks other than tea and water, and tips. If there are more than two of you, write to us: the per-person price comes down.

Is the 4x4 really private?

Yes. We don't put strangers together in one vehicle: you travel with the people on your booking and your driver-guide, up to six per 4x4. That's what lets you stop when you want and move the departure time.

Do I have to pay upfront to book?

Write to us first: we confirm dates, itinerary and the total price before any question of payment. The exact terms are in our terms of sale, and what happens if you need to cancel is set out in our cancellation policy.

Erg Chigaga or Erg Chebbi — which desert should I choose?

Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) is easier to reach and busier; Chigaga is bigger, wilder, with no hotels or quad bikes at the foot of the dunes. From Marrakech the driving times are similar — but via Foum Zguid, Chigaga is earned with a true desert crossing rather than a long ribbon of tarmac. The full comparison is here, and our synthesis which desert to choose covers every case.

When is the best time to visit?

September to early June for camp nights; October–November and February–April are ideal. In summer we run early-morning Lake Iriqui trips instead.

How do I get to Foum Zguid?

By paved road: 4.5 h from Marrakech via Taznakht, 2.5 h from Ouarzazate, 4 h from Agadir. Our trips from Marrakech include all transport if you prefer not to drive. The detailed transport guide is here.
