Frequently asked questions

Everything to know before you go

The questions we answer every week on WhatsApp — with the honest replies of an agency that lives here. The big subjects have their own pages: safety, packing, children, campervans, trip length, summer, Ramadan, where to stay. Another question? Write to us.

Erg Chigaga or Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) — which should I choose?

Erg Chebbi is easier to reach, with hotels at the foot of the dunes — and more visitors. Erg Chigaga is larger and wilder: no permanent buildings, no quad bikes, reachable only by 4x4 or camel. If you want silence and a truly dark sky, choose Chigaga; from Foum Zguid it is 2.5 hours of track away.

When is the best time to visit the Moroccan desert?

September to early June for camp nights. October–November and February–April have the mildest days (22–28 °C). December–January: beautiful light but cold nights (sleeping bags provided). July–August is too hot for dune nights; we run early-morning Lake Iriqui trips instead.

How much does a desert tour cost?

With us everything is displayed: Lake Iriqui day trip from €80/person, 2 days / 1 night at Erg Chigaga from €140/person, 3 days from €260, 3-day trip from Marrakech from €440 — based on 2 people, private 4x4, half board at the camp. Rates drop for 4 and 6 travellers.

How do booking and payment work?

Book by WhatsApp or email, with no middleman platform. A deposit may be asked for trips from Marrakech; the balance is paid on site in cash (euros or dirhams) or by transfer. You receive written confirmation with the detailed programme.

Is the desert suitable for children and seniors?

Yes. The tracks from Foum Zguid are short and smooth, the pace adapts, and the camp has real beds. Families with children from age 4 and travellers over 70 join us regularly — just tell us your needs (child seats, an extra stop).

What should I pack?

The essentials: scarf or hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, light closed shoes, a fleece for the evening (warm hat in winter), head torch and power bank. Blankets, sleeping bags, water and meals are provided.

Can we come with a motorhome or our own 4x4?

Yes — Foum Zguid is a classic N12 stop for motorhome travellers. Park safely in the village and join a tour with us, or follow our 4x4 to the camp in your own vehicle (GPS point and lead guide on request).
